Crash course! All bluegrass instruments. All levels. Novices welcome! Only requirement is change smoothly between 4 chords. G, D, C, A. (notes for bass and fiddle) You will be jamming right away!

11:00 am: Beginner Family Jam at the FAMILY STAGE

Led by LA local fiddle teachers Molly White and Natalie Brejcha.

Open to all ages, this slow paced, family oriented jam is for those who have a melody instrument like fiddle and want to learn and play some classic tunes as well as chord players who know how to play basic ADEGC chords on their instruments.

This beginner jam will have printed music available with chord charts, words and melodies provided.

 

12:00 pm: Two Runner - Old Time Fiddle at SWABA

Learn an original oldtime fiddle tune with Emilie Rose, fiddle player for Two Runner. This will be a fiddle heavy workshop but everyone and all levels are welcome. We will be experimenting with cross tuning to GDGD to learn this pretty simple melody! 

 

1:00 pm: DJ Reed - Slow Jam  at SWABA

"Nothing over 80 BPM jam".  Come on by and hang out with friends… The Nothing over 80 beats a minute jam is a come as you are casual hoe down.  Classic songs and fiddle tunes.  Flip chart with chords.   Hosted by southwest Bluegrass Association.   A Topanga favorite led by DJ Reed and the Main Street Jam Band.   Guaranteed fun and smiles!  

3:00 pm MariaChingona -  Cumbia Workshop at the DANCE STAGE

Leave it all on the dance floor ! Cumbia is a rhythm born in Colombia that spread to the Americas, and around the world. Learn the basics with MariaChingona and you'll be ready for her Main Stage performance immediately following the workshop.

3:00 pm Donna Hargis - Bluegrass Harmony at CBA

4:00 pm Honey Buckets - Single Mic Workshop at CBA

Honey Buckets single-mic performance workshop is an instructional and demonstrative performance covering the techniques, benefits, challenges and reasons to use a single microphone.  Topics include harmony techniques, instrumental dynamics, moving around the mic - what we call "The Dance", gear requirements and more!  The presentation is both conversational and musical including a Q&A portion.
